About:
Do specific teaching techniques have the power to eliminate behavioral problems? Can they keep kids focused and learning during class? If they do exist, could they be universally used? According to Doug Lemov's book, Teach Like a Champion, the answer is YES! He wrote the book as a guide for teachers to get their students "on the path to college." Throughout the book, Lemov prides himself on his practical, non-research based techniques for teachers. From Lemov’s classroom experiences, he created 49 “specific, concrete, and actionable” methods for teachers to use in any grade, classroom, or subject. However, while his techniques are practical, the research of educational psychologists strongly supports his methods. This site highlights 4 of Lemov's techniques: “Break It Down,” “Do It Again,” “Format Matters,” and “Name The Steps.” The tabs elaborate on how the procedures work and the research that supports them. Also, I have included a sample of what the steps would look like in my future Spanish classroom. I encourage other teachers and education majors to test Lemov’s techniques and think about how they could work in their classrooms.
